This style of Seto-ware was a standard utilitarian product of various Seto kilns in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. This deep Seto-ware serving dish is decorated with a few simple brush strokes depicting a rabbit ear iris in an iron-oxide brown under a clear glaze. The surface marks are the result of small tsuchi dango, or clay pellets, used to separate the stacked plates when being fired. Early 20th century. It is in excellent condition except for normal firing irregularities.
