This is an Exquisite Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Meiji Plate / Charger probably done by Hayashi. The piece has a very high gloss enamel finish and is worked in standard cloisonne with silver and gilt wires. It is approx. 10 3/4" in length x 1/5/8" high. The plate is very unusual because after the blue background enamel was applied, A THICK COAT OF CLEAR ENAMEL was then put over this and the standard cloisonne was worked on top of this clear coat of enamel. What this does is give the plate an extra... Click for details

This is a rather unusual shape for a Japanese cloisonne vase with its long narrow neck and it flared base with a sharp edge to the waist of the base. Because of the color combinations and shape we have an idea it might have been made for the Persian market. It dates from the early Meiji period, circa 1870s and is in excellent condition. The normal small pitting is typical of the earliest Japanese cloisonne. The vase could have been either a bud vase or an oil vase. It measures 7" tall and is 5" ... Click for details

The form and color of this cloisonne pair is quite unusual. They are well decorated with both silver and gold wire, with nice detail. There are some stress lines near the top and bottom rims, but no serious issues. Any variations in color that appear are due to lighting. The ground color is consistent throughout both vases. They date about 1900 and measure 7" x 4".
