This unusual double gourd sake vessel is fashioned in the shape of a chrysanthemum. Dating from the early 1900's, it is complete with a lacquered sake cup, wood stopper, bone ring and fitted wood box with ivory knob. Except for minor chips on the rim of the sake cup and some wear on the string it is in excellent condition.

This is a wood carving of Okame, the goddess of mirth and prosperity. This rendition of the plump-cheeked maiden is designed as a wall hanging with two small holes on the sides which allow it to be suspended. It dates from the early 20th century. The front side is in very good condition. The back side shows some signs of wear along the edges. Dimensions: 12" x 8 ½".

This early 1900 hanging boat-shaped container is used for tea ceremony flower arrangements. It is fashioned from an ovoid segment of bamboo. It is in very good condition, except for a slight separation between the copper liner and the bamboo. Dimensions: 19" x 4" x 2". This stunning MORIKAGO,(fruit basket)looks almost new with a beautiful patina. Made by the second "best," ikebana basket artist at the turn of the century in Japan,it is of low circular form with basic twill plaiting, inscribed, "Shokosai kore zo," with a diameter of 16.12" Comes with the original kiriwood inscribed/seal marked box.

These candlesticks look like they are made from old pieces - especially the candle
holders being of a different material. Could it be from the old door or some kind of harness for a horse? Whatever they were, this Mingei piece from Japan would be a great addition for your home! The candle holders are adjustable in directions. But the pair needs some support to be able to stand alone as shown in the first picture. Each piece is 21 inches long and quite heavy.

The Japanese “sumi-tsubo” was used by carpenters to mark long, straight, precise cut-lines on the surface of timber. This Edo period sumi-tsubo (“ink pot”) was hand-crafted from durable and finely grained keyaki wood. The partially visible wheel held a line of twisted thread which was fed off the spool into a rectangular well and out through a hole where it would be attached to a stickpin.
