A beautifully patinated hardwood crosspiece for a pothook adjuster carved as a carp. This carp was part of a device for suspension of a kettle or cook pot over a fire in a Japanese home. It shows evidence of extensive use; the hole in its head has been relined in the past with bamboo, now worn itself and the surface has a good patina. The iron fittings are old and hand forged. Shop sign in the shape of a pipe used to hang outside a pipe store. The pipe is of the rau kiseru type, the type with a metal head and mouth piece on a bamboo middle section. An iron eyelet in the middle section serves as the hanging device. Polychromed wood. Japan, 19th century.

Japanese hand carved wooden SCULPTURE of a large RABBIT sitting on it's haunches. Well modeled wiht a beautiful light slightly "shellacked," patina! Left ear was broken and has been repaired, but the crack is hardly noticeable. Condition is good. Circa: Taisho. Dimensions are 12 inches (30.5 cmcs.) x 8 inches (20.3 cms) in height x 5 inches (12.8 cms.) in width.
