This Edo period Japanese weaving tool was obviously made by the original owner/user or made by a close male relative. The tines are wood and the cord holding them into place is also hand-made. The "peanut" knot at the end of the cord is very typically a sign Japanese folk art craftsmanship.
This old tool had wonderful age and use patina.

Offered here is a very good stoneware ceramic sculpture of HOTEI, one of the Seven Gods of Fortune in Japan. He is shown in a relaxed posture, resting upon his bag of treasures, with a fan in his left hand and the top of his bag in his right hand. He was hand-carved and fired at the Bizen kilns, famous for their dense, fine, reddish clay, sometime during the first half of the 19th century. This charming school children's name tag is from Meiji era. The tag is made from a small wood piece. One side of the tag says, 'Inugami-county The Eleventh district, Tsuji Shigeuchi (paeren's name), the first daughter Tami (?), Meiji 10 (1878)December.' The other side of the tag says, 'Shiga Prefectual School.' The design of the netsuke is assumed to be one of Seven Happy Gods, Hotei. The netsuke is made from hand-curved wood.
