These are a pair of zori (handwoven straw sandals) and a bag which the sandals are put in.

This wonderful Edo period antique Japanese tobacco box is made of wood and covered with lacquer which is now seriously aged. In the middle of the lid is small sculptured detail. The box has the original cord and horn tip toggle, and still contains tobacco.
Circa 1860's this box is 4.5" x 2.5" x 3" high. It is truly a piece of old ethnographic folk art from Japan's Edo period.

This is a container box for a lantern with the attractive Roku-mon-sen ( literal meaning is "six coins") family crest. It is the family crest of Sanada family founded in Shinano (Nagano prefecture) in early 16th century. This box is made of wood and Japanese paper coated with persimmon tannin (kaki-shibu). It has mendings. Probably late 19 C. 29cm x 9cm x 29.5cm 11.4"x3.5"x11.5"
