The size of Plate: 6 5/8" Dia x 1 3/8" High. Very fine Japanese Roiro Makie, Lacquer Plate. It has wonderful gold makie work on Roiro lacuqer finish. The face of Dragon is done in Takamakie. It has fine detail works. The back side has landscape design. The condition of five plate are excellent, condition, no crack, no restoration. There are some wear spots on the edge of plate. It came with antique wooden box.Dating from Edo Kouki(late Edo).

Japanese mid-late 19th century lacquered Kogo incense container in the shape of a incense game table. The box incorporates many of the traditional lacquering techniques such as MAKIE, NASHIJI, FUNDAME, RADEN, etc. The top has the lines of the game board done over a cloud design, floral design on front and back and vine design on the sides. The inside is done in NASHIJI with 2 clam shells done in MAKIE. The Kogo measures 2 1/8" wide, 3 1/4" long and 1 3/16" tall.

Unbelievably great condition for this antique Japanese Edo Period c.1870 buddhist temple altar table. The lacquer has gofun underneath the red lacquer to protect against humidity; a practise that ended in the late 19th century. The metal is hand forged copper. The top of the table is wakasa-nuri a specialized lacquering technique where the lacquer is burnished then polished. c.1870. (11" x 7" x 5½") (28cm x 18cm x 14cm).
