These Japanese bronze "kugikakushi" (ornamental metal covering to hide nails) were relief cast in the form of stylized dragons coiled to form the shape of stylized clouds. Meiji/Taisho period, early 20th century. The dragons were cast in high relief against a punched ground with tiny circles. Both kugikakushi have backplates and push-pin type shafts. The size of each Hikite: 4 1/4" L x 3 1/4" W, Oval shape size on the back: 2 1/8" L x 1 3/8" W x 1/4" High. Beautiful and fine work of engraving works of Japanese Sliding door handles called Hikite. It has the gold finish sheet(body is red copper) under silver works with fine engraving of peony flower design. It is all hand engraving works. Fine Craftmenship. The size of Hikite: 4 1/4" L x 3 1/4" W, Bakcside oval shape: 2 1/16" L x 1 5/16" w x 1/4" High. It is very pretty Japanse Hikite, sliding door handle which were used for Fusuma door.
