19th century Japanese ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) in a form of a natural fruit pit skillfully carved with 2 scenes of scholars engaged in discussions, all among swirling clouds. Excellent carving in deep relief with precise undercutting and complete piercing of the body of the pit. Very nice mellow brown patina, overall in excellent condition. Height 1/2 inches.

Rather unusual late 19th - early 20th century ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) in a shape of a doll of Zen Patriarch Daruma with its eyes popping in and out. Wooden body, face appears to be carved out of horn, and eyes of ivory. Cord hole goes through the back down to the bottom. Clever design, nice patina. Height 9/16 inches.

19th century marine ivory (walrus tusk) okimono of a huge toad, 2 different species of frogs, a snake and a monkey. Rather unusual grouping, probably illustrates some Japanese proverb or a story: an inscription in irregular reserve on the bottom translates character by character as “value / ten / one / ten thousand”, and is either a reference to the same proverb, or an indication of a high value of the object. 19th century ivory netsuke of a terrified rat catcher whose charge escaped from a box and climbed on the shoulder of the man. Like any darker netsuke does not photograph well, especially the signature. Superb carving with great face, excellent rendition of his muscles. Beautiful patina, wonderful sheen to the surface.
