19th century ivory okimono style netsuke of two Gods of Good Fortune - Jurojin and Daikoku carrying a huge bag of scrolls on a pole, assisted by a small boy. Wonderful quality carving, great faces, excellent attention to details such as clothing and scrolls. Stained dark brown, nice wear and patina. Height 1 13/16 inches, base length 2 1/4 inches.

18th century ivory netsuke of Okame with her hand around a small boy. Strong early piece with characteristic 18th century chunkiness and presence. Large himotoshi (cord opening) going through the back down to the bottom, old age lines. Very pleasant wear to the surface from more than 200 years of handling, beautiful intensive yellow patina from wear against the silk of kimono. Height 1 1/4 inches.

Beautiful wear and mellow patina, very pleasant feel of age. Signed SHORYU on the bottom - the artist is listed in NETSUKE by Neil Davey (p. 525, number 2503). Excellent sculpture. 19th century small netsuke of a mountain with at least 3 types of trees (pine, bamboo and some deciduous species), 3 scholar’s huts, a bridge, a waterfall, waterfall, and eight figures of scholars, all on a minute scale in the manner of Kagetoshi. The material is marine ivory, probably narwhal tusk, with characteristic superb luster. Excellent netsuke carved with great confidence and superb detailing. One of the best netsuke of its type that I have had. Height 7/8 inches.

19th century Japanese lacquer 4-compartment inro with carved decoration of a sennin (Chinese sage or Immortal) with a scroll on each side. Does not photograph well. The one in flight on a crane among clouds is Taiho Sennin, the one on a turtle with a dragon head among waves is probably Roko Sennin.
