A wooden statue of a horse of the Yamato period - carved in the mid to later Edo period, circa 1800-1860. This piece was made in the ancient manner in that it was formed from two pieces of wood that were glued together and then carved. Although it seems that it was colored in various colors from the first, only reddish brown powdered paints remain now. Height: 3 1/3" by 3 3/4" wide by 1 1/8" deep. Very good condition - with the exception that the tail is missing.

Antique Japanese bronze okimono depicting a puppy dog. Dates from the Meiji era (1868-1912). Medium brownish patina. Heavy in weight. Good detailed casting with paws depicted on bottom of feet. Height: 6.25". Condition is very good with usual rubbing of patina on bottom of paws. Some minor wear (a little rubbing in mouth and near collar) but overall condition is very good.

Two bronze rabbits cast by lost wax. One sitting and the other resting on all fours, Very expressive eyes and some detailed chasing to indicate fur. They are free standing on a wood mount carved with flowers and rocks. Each rabbit is signed by an inscription of the first character of the artist's name WA His full name is Wada Ichi Shin.b.1893 d.1945

This early 20th century Japanese carved bone and tagua statue is 6 ¼” high, 2” wide (the base is 2 5/8” wide) and 1 ¾” thick. It depicts a man who appears to be a merchant. His left hand carries a pouch; his right hand is raised up and holds an unknown subject. His body was carved from bone and his head was carved from tagua (vegetable ivory). Aside from a small repair on the collar, it is in good condition.

Height 18.6 cm depth 6cm. Very minor old restoration to age crack on bottom of base. The trainer wears plain clothes, but his monkeys each wear coats which have incised designs. One monkey is sitting freely behind the trainer while the other monkey is tethered with a collar and carries an elaborately carved and beribboned box.

Glass ball on a wooden stand of finely carved and undercut work. The base has been carved in the shape of high foaming waves in which fishes are swimming, and that carry the jewel of the tides. The waves inlaid with little pieces of mother-of-pearl and gold lacquer. Ryujin, the Dragon King, held this jewel to rule the tides. Overall height 7 ¼ inches. Japan, Meiji period. Ball in near-perfect condition (one tiny, shallow scratch), the stand with some repairs and some missing tips on the waves.
