One of the best examples of Japanese bronzes we have seen in an increasingly sparse market, this beautiful piece is worth a second look. Deep, rich Meiji Period (c.1867-1912) bronze with carp swimming over waves in raised relief on one side; geese frolicing among grasses, also in raised relief on the other side. Exceptional antique Japanese bronze flower vase 'usubata' used for the tea ceremony. Heavy, thick bronze used in the late Meiji Period (1867-1912). On one side in raised relief is a dragon flowing amongst the clouds. The other side has a defiant tiger surrounded in mountains. Both images define a protective, impenatrable aura. A rare antique Japanese tripod green overglazed shigaraki flower vase. Shigaraki is one of the seven main kilns of ancient Japan. The clays and ceramics were prized for tea utensils, tea storage and the tea ceremony. Most storage vessels used by the Imperial court in Kyoto came from Shigaraki.
