A set of six high quality Shunga paintings from the turn of the century, originally from a set of twelve. Designed to be presented as a handscroll, the paintings have never previously been mounted.
Very finely painted with ink, gofun and pigment on silk. The ink and pigments are strong and vibrant, the silk supple and clean. Foxing is present in the images, particularly on the white gofun. In reality it is perhaps half as conspicuous as it appears in the photographs.

This painted hand scroll contains 14 drawings. Six sealed MATSUMURA Keibun ( 1779-1843 ), one signed Keibun, and another one sealed, Keibun's brother, Goshun ( 1752-1811 ). One of the bird paintings in this scroll was introduced by the book " A Brush with Animals ", which was published by "Society for Japanese Arts " in 2007 ( see the 2nd photo ). Idyllic and fantastic landscape painting featuring piper on the cow. Painted with ink and color on silk. Measurements of Scroll : 83 1/4" x 22 1/8" (211cm x 56cm), Painted area : 60 3/4" x 16 5/8" (154cm x 42cm). There is a signature and red seals of the artist, although we have not any information. The painting is in reasonable condition with water stains on the upper end and spots.

Japan, 17th -early 18th Century, a Seal unread,
This is a very old painting painted with two Samurais on horses
It has a square seal in red on the lower left painting, but unread.
It is a hanging scroll with a very nice old silk mountl, painted in ink,
color and mineral color on paper.
It is in fine condition with minor lightly worn, some colors faded.

A striking 2 panel screen Painting of a young beauty under the fiery red leaves of a Momiji before teh red and white walls of a shrine. Reminiscent of the style of Yoshihisa Yumeiji, although it is unsigned, judging by style and age (c. 1920) the work is possibly that of Mitsuya Chihagi, an artist active in the opening decades of the 20th century.
