A Japanese Imari Chawan (tea cup) - late Edo to Meiji

A small Imari chawan bearing an old auction mark and dated as 1860's. It may be as late as late Meiji from the look of it. At any rate it is a fine example of a small chawan decorated in underglaze irises with gold outlines on one side and Buddhist symbols on the other. The piece has a double gourd mark on the side. Gourd shape sign"Kotobuki" letter inside.Next one looks like Ching-Lung, "Ching" but not positive The interior has a simple Greek key design at the rim. The chawan measures 2 5/8" ... This Imari plate dates from the mid-Meiji period (ca. 1880-1900). It is decorated entirely in overglaze colurs (mustard yellow, green, orange, aubergine and gold).

Red Koransha flared mouth vase with warriors

The decoration on this vase is more in keeping with the work of Hichozan and is not typical of Koransha marked pieces. This vase is in excellent condition with few signs of wear and it measures 12" x 6". The red Koransha mark dates it about 1880.

The decoration on this Imari fish plate appears to be Fukagawa, but there is no mark on the reverse side. This item is in excellent condition with minimal wear and no damages. It measures 9.5" x 6.75" and dates about 1880 - 1900.

Japanese Imari fish plate by Seiji Ka Sha

This is an authentic Meiji Period Imari fish plate by the Seiji Ka Sha studio, dating 1871 - 1874. It is brightly decorated with a floral motif. There is some visible wear to the surface enamel and gold, but no breaks or restorations. The dimensions are 10.5" x 6.5".

Covered armorial rose medallion vegetable dish

Other than some expected minor surface wear, this item is in excellent condition. The gold and enamel work in the reserves is well defined and all of the faces are visible. It measures 10" x 8" x 6" and dates back to about 1860.

Fukagawa porcelain vase with koi

This is a very fine example of work from the Fukagawa porcelain studio, dating about 1900 - 1910. It is subtle and elegant, very much in Japanese taste. The condition is excellent throughout, with no signs of wear or damage. The dimensions are 8" x 6".

This item nicely complements the larger platter we are offering in the same form. This one measures 13.25" x 12.5" and dates about 1880. The condition is good with some minor surface wear and original fritting around the edges.

This is the largest platter in this form that we have owned, measuring 15.25" x 14.5". The condition is good, with some original fritting around the edges, along with minor surface wear. There are no breaks or damages to this item. It dates about 1880.

Late Meiji Kutani Figure of a Samurai

An imposing Kutani porcelain okimono of a standing samurai in full battle armor. You can tell he is a Samurai because of the two swords he carries. For some unknown reason he is carrying a large fish under his left arm. The various parts of the armor are done in fine detail - the dragon heads on the shoulders, the helmet, the foot armor. We date the piece to the early 20th century, late Meiji, circa 1900-1915. It is in excellent condition and measures 10 3/8" high by 5" wide by 6 1/2" deep.
