Small wooden carving of excellent quality: tiger with flaming groin, looking back and fiercely growling, standing on a rock between stalks of bamboo. Beautiful piece of hard wood, some red color around the mouth, eyes inlaid in brass. Although carved in three dimensions, it is meant to be seen frontally only. Japan, Meiji period, 19th century.

This elegant Kannon Statue is carved from a single piece of hard wood. Due to its great age the lacquer were polished until the wooden basis patches below come to the surface. With rich age-old patina. "Hoei(japanese traditional era name) 6th(1710) January 4th", "Dedication", dedicator name and "Taneyoshi"(?) sculptor name are carved on the bottom. Measurements: 5 3/8" (13.6 cm) tall. There is repair in the coiffured hair and antiquity chaps on the surface as shown by the photographs.

Arhat literally means "worthy one" (an alternative folk etymology is "foe-destroyer" and constitutes the highest grade of noble person—“Ariya-Puggala”—described by the Buddha as recorded in the Pali Canon. Meiji-Tasho period, wooden, signed, “Ko Omote” Noh mask. A new layer of lacquer has been applied to the interior. This mask was designed so that slight adjustments in the position of the head can express a number of emotions (such as fear or sadness) due to the variance in lighting and the angle shown towards the audience. 20/14cm.

The size of Bamboo Sculpture:12" H x 5 1/2" L x 4 1/8" W. It is very old bamboo sculpture carving from one piece bamboo shoot because there are several knots can bee seen from inside bottom. Antique Japanese pair of lively koma inu (temple fudog guardians), carved of keyaki (elm) wood, left hand creature has mouth open showing teeth and has a curly mane, right hand creature with toothy grin and wavey mane, wonderful detail carving, fain remnants of pigment (mouth, eyes, and whiskers), Momoyama Period.
