Beautiful Japanese shallow pottery bowl done in the Korean manner. Could be any of the folk potteries such as Kuratsu or Seto from the looks of the glaze and the style of the foot. Finely crackled tan glaze with iron oxide underglaze decoration around the rim. The bowl measures 9 1/4" in diameter and is 2 1/8" deep. Excellent condition with only normal signs of wear. I believe this one dates from the early 1800's - late Edo period - but it is possible that it is from the Meiji timeframe.

Multiple spur marks on the inside of the bowl indicate the dish was glazed and then placed in the kiln upside down to fire it. Fine addition to a collection of early J... Click for details

Superb rectangular dish with the signature of Ogata Kenzan. Probably from a pottery
atelier located near the Kenzan kilns and from the same approximate time as that of
Kenzan's grandson, Ogata Ihachi. See Wilson's book on Ogata Kenzan. This piece has
been vetted by the world authority on Kenzan - copy of documentation provided with the
dish. The dish measures 9 1/2" long x 4" wide x 3/4" high - outside dimensions. It weighs 9
1/4 ounces. Dates from early 18th century. A rare a... Click for details
