A most unusual sake cup from the mid Edo Period, circa 1775-1825. It features a design of several crabs in black and red on a grayish toned pottery glaze. The cup is formed in the shape of an unfolding lotus leaf and the base is formed with a snake like coil of unglazed clay. There is an impressed mark on the coiled base, however we have not been successful in getting it translated. The cup is clearly a 17th to mid 18th century in age. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or res... Click for details
