Appearing to be a finely-modeled shell standing upon three tiny feet, this Edo period (or earlier) Japanese stoneware object was, no doubt, prized by several generations of scholar-calligraphers. There is what appears to be a tiny leaf next to the water fill opening. It measures 3" in length, and 2 1/4" high other than a barely visible restoration on one foot, the piece is pristine, with the ususal potting flaws typical of stoneware.
