A set of Japanese serving dishes for the tea ceremony, each would contain various foodstuffs that were typical for serving guests. These geometrically designed dishes were produced in the Arita kiln and date to the first decade of the 20th century of the Meiji period (1868-1912). This set would make an impressive center piece for the table, or presentation for parties. In excellent condition the largest measures 7 inches diameter to the smallest being a little over 2" in diameter.

A rare and highly attractive tea bowl (chawan) of Black Oribe ware in irregular shape on a smaler, central foot. The flattened shape is accenturated by an abstract pattern in 2 different glaze tones, silvery black and a deep grey, which cover both the outside as well as the inside of the bowl. In addition there are 3 sets of triple, incised lines to the body. Edo, late 17th cent. H 7,4 cm, W 14,5 cm. Later kiri-box. Condition: Perfect.

19th century/Meiji period Japanese Raku pottery kogo (box for incense during tea ceremony) in a form of pot with 3 mock handles, and cover with a strap handle. Raku pottery was produced in the Kyoto region, wonderful potting with intentional carelessness characteristic for this type of objects. 19th century Kyoto ware Japanese ceramic octagonal kashiki dish with enameled on the inside with a phoenix in flight above blooming flowers. Used for holding sweets served with tea. 19th century round Japanese kogo (covered box for incense during tea ceremony) made in cloisonne technique. Very simple elegant shape with decoration of two butterflies in flight among various flowers, avanturine glass enamel highlights.
