Featuring an unusual Japanese tissue holder(Hakoseko)which was used when a woman wore a formal kimono and was stored in the obi. Stylized embroidered kiku in pink and lavender on white with gold divisions, all on white satin. Case still with tissues in pocket on outside, and on the inside, a mirror and another pocket with a paper holding wooden sticks(for cotton-cleaning ears?). This is a beautiful silk patched juban ( under kimono ) which is made of Edo chirimen ( silk crepe ), wild silk and plain silk. The techniques are tie-dyeing, hand painting and stencil-resist-dyeing. The purple and red parts are woven of wild silk. All the cloths are dyed with natural colors such as natural indigo, safflower and so on. This Japanese maru obi has a rich design with colorful motifs. The obi is approximately from the early part of 1900s and it is made from fine silk materials. The designs you find on the obi are cranes, court carriages, fans, flowers, pagodas, and other auspicious motifs. The dominant colors are deep orange, deep blue, tea green, gold, lavender, green, black, and etc.

This is an amazing old boro futon cover. Light blue part is asa ( linen )and the cords are attached to tie the both rims. Considering these two reasons, this futon cover can be traced back to late Edo era ( ca. mid 19th C ), that is, rice straws were filled inside instead of cotton as cotton was luxury for common people in that time. 188cm x 156cm 74inch x 61inch
