This long work coat is made primarily of a thinly woven printed, fake 'kasuri' (ikat) cotton fabric which has been over patched with various other cottons, some of which are 'fake' kasuri, others which are woven ikat. The effect is of subtle layering of pattern against pattern. The nagagi's length was altered by the wearer which accounts for the seaming of fabric around the waist: the coat was 'hiked up' and stitched in place to shorten it, a very... Click for details

This is an impressive, very long boro noren of indigo dyed cotton with an applied bottom apron of thin, brown cotton cloth which seems to have been 'recycled' from a garment. The noren itself shows the effects of prolonged exposure to the elements as the front is nicely faded and the back less so. The noren shows three vertical panels of tsutsugaki kanji (Chinese characters) and is composed of eleven vertically hand sewn panels. In detail photos attached p... Click for details

This indigo dyed cotton noragi, or work coat, shows very interesting 'islands' of mending, which are nicely contrasted by the bold and sure vertical stitchings in dark, thick thread. The coat is made of recycled, nicely-faded indigo fabric and its patching and mending are lively, unusual and quirky.
A very handsome folk garment.
