This is a very high quality Kyoto Nishijin silk brocade obi, one of the best quality obi that we are currently offering. You may find the same type of designs in newer or even in old obis, but the quality of silk and the fine embroidery would not be the same. I have been always searching for the same obi after purchasing this obi in Japan. The seach is still continued. The originally white color is now aged to a beautiful creamy tan color, excellent condition. The total measurements are 12 ... Click for details

This is an another heavy Nishijin obi with lots of metal thread. The white area is rich white satin and is whiter than the other obi from the same period. It was difficult to take pictures because of this white color. This is a really beautiful old obi with the design throughout on front and back. It is the kind of obi that no longer we see them produced. 12-1/4" wide x 154" long. Early to mid 1900.

An older Kyoto Nishijin obi. This one is included in my HARD TO FIND list. The designs are ancient mirrors. You would not able to even guess the cost if this obi were to be reproduced today. The discolored areas are not stains, these are the areas with gold thread (real gold) woven in. The measurements are 12-1/2" wide and 169" long with thick padding, enough to cover two formal dining tables.

A fine brocade style heavy silk Maru obi, of typical construction (design continuous on both sides), the base orange with embroidery in blue, purple, green, red and gold. This a very fine quality obi, there are less often seen outside of the Japan because of the expense of the workmanship. Japan saw dramatic changes in textile production during the Meiji Era (1868-1912). Kyoto, the former capital and long the center of the textile industry, saw a revitalization with the introduction of new wea... Click for details

This is an older obi from Nishijin textile district of Kyoto and in perfect condition. The colors are very vivrant with the gold leaves woven in throughout in the background. Thick padding, probably from the early 1900s to 1940. We need to re-take photos to show the quality of this obi. Please ask for more photos if you are interested (we don't have have them yet, but we will take it).
