This cylindrical bamboo incense container has lacquer top, bottom and cap. The decoration on the bamboo depicts three flying bats, good-luck motif, with carving. The lacquer part of the top has Kanji-character design, meaning happiness to come. The artist signature is carved on the bamboo. Measurements about : 13 5/8" (34.5cm) long. It is in excellent condition and comes with original wooden box.

This wonderful adjustable “yokogi” crosspiece was carved from densely-grained Japanese keyaki wood in the shape of a carp and dates to the late 18th/early 19th century. The bold simplicity of the carving is extremely appealing and gives the piece a marvelous sculptural quality. This early carp-shaped pothook-adjuster has a superb dark patina consisting of cooking smoke and soot from centuries of use hanging over a fire. Details and more details comprise this scholar's box with a frolicking shishi under the latchplate. The box has copper drawer pulls, handle and hinges and contains a copper suiteki, or water dripper. The inkstone is edged in gilt and the liner board, which holds the stone and suiteki has a carved stem and leaf. There's a hand and brush rest, too.

Outstanding ranma pair of eagles on pine carved in high relief. The condition is as impressive as the carving, with no discernible damage. Each panel displays an eagle alighting on pine. While these pieces are beautiful from either side, the fronts are defined by the extension of the carvings beyond the cartouche edges. The thickness of the carvings dates these to the Meiji period.
