A rare antique Bagobo warrior’s head scarf (called “tangkulu pamudbud”) from the Bagobo people of south central Mindanao, Philippines circa the early 1900s. Made of a square commercial cotton cloth folded to form a triangle, the tangkulu used the tie-dyeing (“plangi”) process with reddish-brown morinda dye to produce the roundish white patterns, characteristic of tangkulu. Details: A good sized and unusual example of a bronze seated Buddha from probably the Lang Chang region of Laos. Buddha is seated in Maravijaya upon a high stepped, incised, lotus base. He is deep in meditation with his silver inlaid eyes in trance like concentration above smiling crimson lips.
