A rare antique Bagobo warrior’s head scarf (called “tangkulu pamudbud”) from the Bagobo people of south central Mindanao, Philippines circa the early 1900s. Made of a square commercial cotton cloth folded to form a triangle, the tangkulu used the tie-dyeing (“plangi”) process with reddish-brown morinda dye to produce the roundish white patterns, characteristic of tangkulu.
