This is a fine and very old SAdze from Sumatra, the hand forged iron head is about 200 years old or older. The shaft is 19th century, and bound together with leather. This piece has beautifully detailed carving with great wear and a fine rich patina. About 16" long.

Exceptionally fine and rare Kenyah parang handle, from the Orang Ulu, Sarawak, circa 19th CE. Orang Ulu is more of a geographic designation rather than an ethnic group, referring to an upriver dweller (inland tribe). The “dragon dog” motif, which, may be viewed in enlargement #6, is specific to the Kenyahs. Exceptionally fine and rare Dayak parang handle, from the Orang Ulu, Sarawak, circa 19th CE. Both Dayak and Orang Ulu are more geographic designations rather than specific an ethnic group. Dayak refers to a Borneo native and Orang Ulu is an upriver dweller (inland tribe). In my opinion this piece is most likely Kayan, one of a number of Orang Ulu groups.
