This is an early 20th century exquisite beadwork from the Bagobo people of south central Mindanao, Philippines. The beadwork is of multicolored beads, measures 2.75 x 28.5 inches and is in very good condition, with minimal bead losses, an inch slit at one end and a lost corner (can be seen on the pictures). The hin-tha, or sacred goose, an icon found in both the folk and Buddhist art of Southeast Asia, is the subject of this 19th century teak wood carving from Burma. The bird's head points skyward and it holds a small fish in its beak. A kneeling man rides in the curve of its long neck. A beautifully simple carving that once graced a bullock cart in Burma, this 19th century teak wood bird is a fine example of Burmese folk art. The elongated head and neck of the bird stretch out to a long serpentine body and upturned tail. The artisan may have envisioned a composite bird/sea serpent since such creatures sometimes are found in Burmese art. Lime box of semi-cylindrical shape, with embossed decor showing a stylized lotus on top of lid and geometric ring decor at four different levels. Silver, with fine darkish patina. Laos, 19th century. A wood kinnara, half man, half bird, is surrounded by curving foliage on this large carving that once adorned a two-wheeled bullock cart in 19th century Burma. With human face and torso, bird's legs, wings and upswept tail, the kinnara was a favorite icon in the Burmese pantheon of fantastic mythical creatures.
