Very fine and exquisite Northern Thai, Chiang Saen style lime container. Authentic old Thai silver is now difficult to find as most good pieces are bought by private Thai collectors. This piece is unusual in that it is open worked repoussé and does not have a hinge which is the most common form of these hemispherical shaped boxes, perhaps it was originally made as a potpourri but as there is caked lime residue inside it functioned as such. Antique bronze Thai Buddha in style of Dvaravati. The figure is seated on a double lotus base with hands held out at the waist in the “teaching Buddha” position. The hair shows hand workmanship rather than being just cast as part of the bronze figure and is tightly curled around his head. The Buddha also features elongated earlobes and downcast eyes, typical of early castings.
