A tribal textile used as chest covering for dances from Burma Khumi tribe, early 20th century. This piece have a repeated pattern with two through running stripes of a different color. I personally picked up this textile nearly 10 years ago in the Rakhine state in the old city Mrauk U that is a very old capital of Arakan/Rakhine state close to the border of Bangladesh. Exceptionally fine and rare Iban woman’s skirt with “lintah betgam” - leeches swallowing each and bamboo shoot pattern. Circa 1920, this piece has a bold design woven from all handspun cotton and natural dyes with the occasional indigo highlight. There is one small hole in the skirt (1cm x 3mm) however the rest of the textile is outstanding condition with a completely intact selvedge. L: 116cm/ 45.8in and W: 46.5cm/18.2in.

Good Iban woman’s skirt with “eyes of the green pigeon” pattern and hawks flying above the forest canopy, circa 1920s, composed of all natural dyes and handspun thread. Good Iban women’s skirt with all handspun thread and natural dyes. This piece is quite old possibly late 19th century and was purchased from the museum shop at the Sarawak National Museum in Kuching. The pattern consists of spiders bordered by large lattice tangkong creepers with birds and bamboo shoots.
