Fine old Iban Bidang circa 1920 with intriguing “water strider” motif, there are a few deer (rusa) and a spirit figure in this pattern as well. Collected in Sarawak in 2006. Aside from some fine yellow lines bordering the side panels this is made from all natural dyes and handspun cotton. There is a moderate hole and minor tear noted in enlargements. Three antique gauzy abaca (banana plant fiber) blouses (called “baro”) from the Tagalog area in central Luzon, Philippines circa the early 1900s. This type of blouse was worn in other lowland Philippines as well. A prominent feature of each blouse is the butterfly-like sleeves, which are embroidered with floral motifs. A rare antique Mandaya abaca (banana plant fiber) ikat tube skirt (called “linaog”), which has been opened, from the Mandaya people of southeastern Mindanao, Philippines circa the early 1900s. A small basketry hat (called “suklong”) and two armlets (called”tangkil”) from the Gaddang people of northern Luzon, Philippines, circa the early 1900. The hat (3.5 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches in height) is made of very fine rattan, woven in superior workmanship, around a wooden base.
