A superb Islamic blackened iron jar. Inlaid silver with nicely calligraphy in Islamic Kufic language with interlacing forms of floral and geometric patterns. The jar probably dates back to mid 18th c. But could also be older. Probably originating from Syria. I don't read Kufic so I can't translate the text. Condition: Jar has a small dent on the top rim otherwise perfect, silver still 95% intact, inside a little rusty, but will clean up nicely. H: 13 cm, D: 12 cm.

Carved wood handle with excellent patina. Good condition, and with period asshide covered wooden scabbard. Measures approx. 16inches overall.
