This large wheel thrown storage jar from Southwestern Iran has a buff spherical body with a short neck and a wide mouth. The shoulder is decorated with two spread wing eagles facing left and two smaller birds in profile. The remainder of the body is ornamented with wavy lines. This particular eagle design has been found on numerous vessels excavated in Susa and nearby sites between 2400 and 2200 B.C. Some minor chips to ridge and some incrustation; otherwise in wonderful shape.

-This Tepe Salik Bridge-Spouted Pottery Jar from the 1st millennium B.C has a rounded body and a short concave neck with an attached loop handle and a smaller handle at the back. The birdlike spout as well as the body is painted in brown and black with a variety of patterns including checkerboard and hatched and wavy lines. The decoration is vivid, and with the exception of a repair to the spout, this Persian piece is in prime condition. 10 1/8 inches high

An unusual example of of Persian metalwork -- possibly crafted in China for the Persian market -- in a graceful form. The widely flared top portion is deeply fluted and bears finely detailed engraving of flowers along its lobated edges.
