A chased metal vessel used to serve wine, this 19th century pitcher from the Republic of Georgia is a reflection of that small country's historic role as a crossroad between East and West. Georgia's antiques, sometimes European, sometimes Asian in design, mirror its blend of cultural influences. Superb ring with a ram head on its top, and a leaping tiger on each side. Loop at upper side of the back. Bronze, with green, partly encrusted, patina. Iran, Luristan Culture, Ca. 9th century B.C. Dimensions: height: 3 5/16" (8,3 cm), width: 3 1/4" (8,5 cm). Very good condition despite a tiny chip at the ram's right antler. A very fine piece. Ex. old French collection.

A VERY OLD MIDDLE EASTERN COPPER MILK BOWL of circular form with flared sides and a slightly concave bottom. The hammered copper (see photo of underside) has been lined with tin for actual use, much of which has worn off from the inside of the vessel. An authentic piece dating from the late 19th to the very early 20th century. There are no manufacturer’s marks. A large Turkish traveling pen case (Divit) of elongated form with pronounced rounded ends, one hinged, one with rectangular barrel shaped inkwell. The ends and sides engraved with scrolls. The base of the inkwell decorated with an alam, stamped maker's mark. The exterior of the lid with engraved leaf, the interior with star, Arabic characters and a date (probably corresponding to 1833). Condition: The inkwell lock is missing, two old repairs, wear.
