The traditional dagger of the Ache the most northern provence of Sumatra. 6 1/2” s.e. blade finely contoured and figured at the base, the edge unsharpened as it is strictly a stabbing weapon. Large early example with 9” down curved pattern welded blade. One piece contoured black horn grip. Wood scabbard with large horn throat and horn tip. Shows age throughout with dark patina, surface encrustation and minor checks to the scabbard and hilt. Blade dark with slight surface graining.

This is a small lime container from Irian Jaya, Indonesia. It is made from a gourd and is from the Lake Sentani area . It is 7 1/4" long and scorch decorated in traditional stylized geometry. It has a fine age patina and about 100 years old. Among the natives of many of the Pacific islands, white pigment is used for decorating in a number of ways. This is a very fine and rare form in ivory of the Jawa Demam type. From on old museum collection numbered 176 on the bottom. The carving is simple but superbly executed. This is an Australian aborigine wood shield. It is one piece, 28 1/4" long with an integral hand grip on the back and delicate side extensions which are missing on most examples. The surface is lineally scarified in uniform ridges. The entire surface is stone textured and painted orange. Condition is as shown.
