Ancient Buddhist book of sutras comprising of two thick lacquered and gilt cardboard covers decorated with 16 Buddhas sitting on a throne with their hands in bhumisparsa mudra posture. The central Buddha is flanked by two smaller buddhas, and at their feet are two small praying monks. The book has 42 X 2 pages (written on two sides) written in black characters. Burma, 19th century. Statue of Guanyu, the general of Liu Bei, which was transformed into the famous Guangong, the Taoist God of War. Guanyu is shown here in full military garb, with helmet and armor, sitting on an elevated throne. Votive box at the back, still closed. Wood, with remnants of superimposed painting, lacquering and gilding. China, 19th century. Height: 24.7 cm. Painting and lacquering partly flaked, otherwise very good condition.

Antique Chinese small hardwood display cabinet, with multi-tiered platforms for the display of tea articles and other special pieces. The front of the cabinet has two front hinged doors carved with fu dogs, its apron below carved with scrolling motifs. The interior holds two small secret drawers and an open storage compartment.

Chinese finial hat, known in Chinese as guanmaodi, done in repousse silver topped with a lion. A lage round agate bead, known as dingzhu is placed in the center, the middle has a cylindrical bead with repousse figures, and the base has a very pale jade ring. Age: 19th-20th Century. Size: 4" high.

Small altar comprising of a statue of Green Tara sitting in regal repose on a lion, with a small statue of a worshipper on her lower right side, the whole group surmounting an elevated throne on four legs with, at the back, a large mandorla on the upper side of which stands a small Buddha in relief. Ancient inscription at the back of the mandorla (see photo). Bronze, with green and reddish patina in the recesses. India, 16th century or earlier. Height: 5 1/8" (13,4 cm)...

Highly unusual statue of protecting deity or ancestor, its head surmounted by a circular crown which looks like a "stupa" or a "usnisa". The protector is squatting, its hands are in praying posture. Eroded wood. West Nepal. Height: 36" (41 cm). Obvious signs of great age.

Antique Japanese rootwood hibachi with a lovely textural look and feel. It has a red and black lacquered cloth rim, and a bronze interior with an interesting patina with a layering effect.

Small reliquary box, of cylindrical shape, with its cupola shaped lid ending in a decorated point at its top. The body of the box is decorated with three heads of Buddha in relief and three stars themselves in relief, surmounting a geometric design also in relief. Silver alloy, with a fine age patina. Remnants of soil encrustations. Pakistan, Graeco-Buddhist art, Gandhara Period, Ca. 1st to 3rd century. Height: 7.8 cm. Good condition.

Relics of the Nile is pleased to present this wonderfully detailed funerary cone from a known tomb in the Theban Necropolis. This is cone number 576 from tomb number TT 295 for the scribe Paroy, also known as Djehutymose. The cone is wonderfully inscribed and detailed with clear glyphs. Djeyhutymose was a scribe under Thuthmosis IV or Amenhotep III during the New Kingdom in Egypt. The cone itself measures 3 1/8" in diameter and 2.5" deep...
