Exceptional antique Japanese large kannon biraki tansu (chest with hinged doors). Two stacking sections made all of kiri (paulownia) wood. This chest has unusually bold hardware made of iron with traces of red lacquer. Each of the two large doors on the upper portion is fitted with a large iron kiri mon (specifically Gosan-no-kiri-mon) During the Edo Period, this crest became a well established mon of the Japanese government where previously it was used only by the imperial family...

A rare antique Japanese Sakata Funa Hon Tansu (ship captain's document chest) made of Keyaki burl (Zelkova) in front and Keyaki frame. All original hand forged iron hardware and Urushi lacquer finish. Side carrying handles made of Kaki (Persimmon) wood.

Used in a ship captain's quarters to store valuable documents and books. In the event of a pirate attack, these chests were tied by rope and thrown overboard to prevent them from becoming part of the loot...

Antique Japanese small tansu with 5 drawers of various sizes. Made of kiri (paulownia) wood and still in it's original condition. Iron hardware includes hirute shaped drawer pulls and each drawer has a lock plate. The sides of the chest have a deep reddish lacquer finish. The deep patination is from hundreds of years of careful use.

19th century Japanese wooden nyoi - a Buddhist scepter - with scrolling finial. Nyoi, or Ruyi scepter is a traditional symbol of scholarship and transmission of knowledge. Dense sakura (cherry) wood with beautiful texture, simple elegant carving, wonderful patina to the surface from being handled, old ink spots in places, very pleasant to hold...

A fine Japanese Meiji Period (1868-1912) Silver .900 fine Decanter circa 1870s/1880s fully hallmarked. Measuring 12” in height. The decanter has four separate areas for cordials or sakes.

Cast in high-tin and low-lead bronze by the lost wax method, this mirror has a dark and lustrous patina known as heiqigu (literally “black lacquer antique”). It bears a design of a coiling dragon among trailing clouds...

A Chinese, qingbai, lidded wine-ewer of a rectangular form with moulded floral decoration, and the handle in the form of a chilong; Yuan dynasty. Dimensions; 14.5cm long, 12cm tall. Condition; the glaze condition is very good. The lid has damaged and repaired. The end of the spout has been damaged and repaired. Apprximately 2cm of the mouth rim has been broken and repaired. A Chinese crackle ware, cream coloured, glazed vase. I would suggest that this vase dates from the Ming dynasty, and certainly no later than the C18th. Dimensions; 12.6 cm tall. Condition; with age related wear, and an old repair to the neck. No overpainting.

Votive figure of a naked woman, standing with her arms to the thighs. The head shows schematic features and a casket like wig. Schematic rendering of the body, crudely carved in the round.
Enhanced with red and black painted decoration. Red for the necklaze, the upper arm bracelets and the (decorative lines) around the shins. Remains of black on the hair and the pelvic triangle.
Freestanding figures are comparatively rare...

Rare terracotta draped Corinthian column, the details of the capital and the drapery finely modeled.
The motif is uncommon and supposed to bear some funerary significance.
Behind the monograms ΠΓ. A small vent hole below the inscription.
