Japonesque mixed metal copper tray. Made by Gorham in Providence in 1882. Lobed and rectangular with curved sides. Applied copper and silver ornament: Tree with blossoming branches and sinuous irregular trunk rooted in granulated soil; above a butterfly and bird. Ground engraved with wild grass in foreground and hills in background. Fully marked including maker’s stamp, no. B75, and date letter. Good condition with some spotting to copper.

Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup. This is an awesome ancient Persian sword with a bronze handle and iron blade. The iron blade is still largely intact and stable. It is truly incredible for an iron blade to last the nearly 3000 years since its manufacture in circa 900 BC. This exceptional piece is 46.7 cm in length. Hopi Polychrome Wood Rügan Kachina Doll *Rügan Rasp Kachina -A class of male kachinas that come in groups, accompanied by the Corn Maidens, who play on rasp musical instruments. There are said to be various types who have the same songs but my informants could not name or describe them all. The feather headdress made of four eagle feathers, two projecting horizontally above each ear, seems to be characteristic of all kachinas called Rügan...

Spectacles were only affordable for the very wealthy in China during the 1800's. The lenses were ground from crystal of various shades. Because of the cost, if a lens or frames were broken the remaining pieces would be refitted into a replacement set...as happened with this pair of antique Chinese eyeglasses. The vestiges of the original fitting remain on the left lens.
