Fur pins are not a common find in the field of Mexican silver jewelry collecting yet during my years of buying and selling I have bumped upon a few examples and I can tell you that the best bore the Los Castillo signature - like the one I am presenting here. The "koi fish" is a signature design for the famous workshop yet we all know it was created by Margot de Taxco when she was still married to Antonio Castillo...

From the earlier part of Matilde Poulat's magically creative career this set of silver and red coral earrings is characterized by her textured wirework, beading and bezel-set stones. Almost understated when compared to Matl's usually bold designs, it reminds me of inverted question marks. I love the classic elegance and the way the dark patina of the silver makes the saturated color of the cabs pop. The earrings are 1 1/2" tall by 1" wide and weigh 11.5 grams (for the set)...

Mexico City artist Frederick Davis (1880-1961)designed this distinctive silver brooch in the 1920's. In beautiful vintage condition the pin is 2 1/4" X 2 1/4". Salvador Teran was a designer of note that came out of the Spratling Mexican silver era. Here we have one if his creations that is so simplistic it is timeless. The clean straight lines stand out and the V slightly perks off the chest. Wonderful with a business suit or dress. This piece is 15 inches in wearable length but also is included with this is a custom extender that makes it 17.75in. which is well executed in itself...

Bangle bracelets, be they hinged or solid, are a big love of mine but I am doubly thrilled to be presenting here a set of three signed by the Los Castillo! How often does one see this form with this signature, truly? Not often enough is the answer and the rarity enhances the innate quality of the pieces...

Good early Mexican Deco silver repousse jewelry is becoming harder to find - I don't know if it's because there weren't that many to begin with (quite often repoussage from that period seems a little clumsy, the technique needing additional experimenting with) or that at some point their popularity grew so much that they were "scooped up" from the market. Vintage silver and tiger's eye necklace by Erika Hult de Corral, the Taxco modernist designer with studies in Paris and apprenticeships in the workshops of both Ledesma and Sigi Pineda. I love Ric's jewelry for the fluidity of lines and her unique way of marrying sterling with hard stones. This bracelet measures 7" long with the largest charm measuring 2" and is in excellent condition. One charm carries the hallmark SPRATLING OF MEXICO SILSON INC. During their 5 year partnership in the 1940's, Spratling provided his original designs to Victor Silson who produced the designs using silver plated pewter. In her very informative book MEXICAN SILVER, Penny Morrill provides details about the years of the partnership and production of the Spratling designs.

Circa mid-century, this heavy chunky modernist onyx ring was produced by Antonio Pineda.

It's a rarely seen design, wide, solid, and absolutely killer, with inlaid onyx in a 970 silver setting.

Measures a 6 on a ring sizer. The side is quite wide, so may fit a little more snug than that...

Vintage hand wrought sterling silver stuffing or serving spoon designed and signed circa 1950's by Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling (1900-67). The spoon is 12 3/8" long and weighs a hefty 121 grams, 4.3 oz. Signed on the reverse WS Spratling 925 TAXCO MEXICO with eagle 30. Beautiful condition - no dents or dings. This sterling silver brooch and pendant was handmade c. 1960's by Mexico City artist Anna Morelli (1921-2008). The piece measures 3 1/4" X 2 1/2" and is in beautiful condition. Fully signed by the artist on the reverse. In 1960 Morelli was an early founding member of the Bazar del Sabado in Mexico City along with Ricardo Salas Poulat where she sold her earliest jewelry designs. Morelli achieved international fame when she was asked to design the jewelry for the Conan the Destroyer film...

Early and quite hard to find, this Los Castillo silver repousse bracelet is comprised of lusciously sculpted, wide feather links. A dream to wear, I love it for the scrolled edges of each feather and the way the links alternate their orientation adding drama to the design. One of my favorite - and at the same time classic - Enrique Ledesma designs the bracelet at hand combines sterling silver and golden sheen obsidian in the maestro's characteristic, perfectly seamless way. Despite the almost minimalist design, the cuff is breath-taking with its huge black onyx cab that centers its face and glistens whenever the light hits it. This lovely pair of handmade silver earrings designed by Taxco, Mexico artist Hector Aguilar measure 1 3/4" x 1 3/4" and weigh 21 grams. Each earring is accented with a turquoise cab.
