Charles Ward Traver was a painter born in Ann Arbor MI on Oct 10 1880. Traver was a resident of Los Angeles in the late 1890's. In 1927 he was in New York City and visited Los Angeles again in 1932. He also lived in Wuanita Hot Springs, Colorado.
He was an illustrator for Land Of Sunshine magazine and did covers for Saturday Evening Post...
This is an early polychrome wooden statue of St. Aloysius Gonzaga, Patron Saint of Youth, probably Spanish, late 18th to early 19th Century, wood carving with layer of gesso on a plinth base, St Aloysius is standing clothed in Jesuit garb, very nice detail of facial features and clothing, statue is in fair to good condition, in need of restoration, has chips in several places, fingers broken in proper left hand, measures 35 in H.
