Chinese Qing dynasty ovoid form porcelain fish bowl decorated around the circumference in underglaze blue on a white ground with lotus seedpods and scrolling tendrils topped by a border of alternating pendant spear points and ruyi heads. The pot tapers to an unglazed, flat, slightly recessed base. The interior, rolled rim, and raised rib under the rim are all glazed white. The monkey is a symbol of rank and promotion. Here we see a kneeling monkey holding its legs. It has a warm glossy patina, some parts of the foot are missing. H. 5 cm.
Intricately carved with a three legged toad (wealth) resting on a leaf, next to a lotus pod with movable hardwood seeds, under the leaf a spider and another insect and two frogs on the stem of the lotus pod.
