This is an adorable small set of furniture of simple construction incorporating cut out sillouettes of cats. The faces of the cats are and painted in black with a great deal of naive charm. The little chair rocks, the bench is stationary. The paint is sky blue and is chippy in places where little hands and little doll's heads have been. There is a little flake where a nail's direction was misjudged a little, and a portion of the nail is exposed there. The bench is 7" across and 6" high to t... Click for details

This is a beautiful dog's head atop this walking stick, cast in brass or bronze. The dog appears to be a retriever, with the handsome squarish jaw and a nice coat. The stick is a hardwood branch with the knots knocked off, and it's smooth to the touch. There is a brass tip on the cane covered in black rubber. Etched into the back of the cane top, "Walk Softly". The length of the stick is about 36-37". It is in excellent condition and dates to 1920-1940.

This is an interesting little piece that I was tickled to find, being interested in all dog antiques. It depicts two dogs in a tussle, one dog having hold of the other's ear, the other, no doubt, yelping in loud protest. It is made out of spelter, or some similar metal, with a gold finish, now mostly worn off. The size is approximately 4" by 2.5". I don't really know the age, although I will guess that it dates somewhere between 1900 and about 1920.

I believe this handsome dog is a Great Dane. He is cast in bronze, I believe, and although hollow inside, is quite heavy. The sculpture would have originally been affixed to a base but is now free standing. It's hard to say how old he is, but I will estimate turn of the century to early 20th century. Approximately 7" long and 4" high.

This dog billy would have been used by trainers to tap their dogs to keep their attention on the task at hand. The handle is a small deer foot with a sterling "shoe" that is riveted through the hoof. The sterling is hallmarked but so worn I cannot determine whose mark it is or the date. The leather is fine old braided leather with a lovely patina, that is still supple and has plenty of life. The tassels on the end have worn away. Overall length is 31". I think it dates to around the 1900.

I think this looks like a Bull Dog or, perhaps, a Pit Bull. It may well be a Pit Bull because that look says BITE to me! He is painted metal, perhaps bronze, with touches of white and a tan collar. Cute as he can be, wary expression and all. About 2" high and almost 4" nose to tail. Excellent condition, early 20th century.
