This fine porcelain figurine of a male mermaid modeled underneath a shell would make an excellent centerpiece. The piece depicts a man with a tail fin as one would see on a mermaid set among cat tails and other reeds as one would find around the water. These items are cast underneath a large scalloped shell. The work is extraordinary with heavy use of gilding and very fine detail.
The piece is signed by Hadley for James Hadley, the primary modeler for Royal Worcester in the late 19th century... Click for details

Two Poole pottery platters, signed by the artist. There are 12.5" long and 4" wide. These are known as the 'cucumber' dishes that were made in the 1950's by the Head of Design, Alfred Read, a very famous potter. The cucumber shape was designed in 1953 and reflects the very "contemporary" style of the fifties. They were painted by Ruth Pavely, based on an early design of the 1930s. Any Alfred Read design is highly desirable by pottery collectors. Condition is very good.
