A small Westerwald GR jug of 6 capacity, with a reeded manganese neck, the petalled medallion crisply moulded and flanked by scrolling cobalt blue floral decoration. Height: 6 ¼ in. 18th century.

There is a very fine hairline at the neck, 2 in. long. Otherwise excellent condition.

This modernt art porcelain vase was designed by Tapio Wirkkala for Rosenthal in 1971. It's oval shaped and has a bisque, or matte, finish. What makes this piece so attractive is the visual contrast created by the three different surface areas: smooth, raised dots and incised lines. It is 8 inches tall and in excellent condition.

A finely modelled parian bust of the composer Handel in a fine white porcelain body. It is marked to the back of the socle with a number "330".

Dating from the 2nd half of the C19th., it stands 9 1/4inches high.

There is a firing fault to the inside of the socle which does not show through to the outside. It is in excellent condition.

Freyer created several variation on this mid century porcelain vase, some of which resemble garlic bulbs. The sinuous lines contribute to the gracefulness of this piece which is in mint condition. This one is 4 1/2 inches high. I have a similar one in white, see item 944.

This substantial mid century vase is by studio ceramicist Wendelin Stahl, a well known artist in Germany. It is decorated with a mottled blue and black matte finish. The piece is 8 inches high, and 33 inches in circumference. It is handsigned on the bottom, 619/20 and Stahl in script. His work is in the Westerwald Ceramic Museum and in several galleries in Germany which you can find if you google his name.

This is a fun ceramic plaque by Ruscha. It has a palette of mottled browns, reds and tans and also a mix of glazed and matte surfaces. What's most eyecatching of course is the three dimensionality of the plaque with its "mushroom caps" and slices protruding from the center. It is 13 1/2" x 4 3/4" and has a hook on the back where it is also marked. Great condition.

What's striking to me is that an essentially rectilinear and blocky shape conveys so much movement and fluidity. The contrast created by the variety within the linear design and the varying depths of the patterns create a very dynamic surface. An asymmetrical porcelain vase for the Rosenthal Studio Line designed by Johan van Loon in 1985. The unusual shape is complemented by the undulating and textured lines decorating the vase. It is 9 1/2 inches tall and 5 1/2 inches wide at the base. In excellent condition,no chips or cracks.
