Offered here is a wonderfully evocative carved wood sculpture of a head, presumably a santo head. I am pretty sure it is at least 18th century, and possibly earlier. It definately has characteristics that are masculine, if will you notice the heavy brow ridge, and the straight nose, and the turn of the mouth. As you can see, there is a crack that runs down one side of the face, a piece of the other side of the face that has loss, losses to the nose, and parts of the ears are missing. (That so... This little music box has the loveliest surface of burled wood with this warm dark patina, tiny age cracks, and a great feel. There is a small inlaid brass plaque in the center of the top, flush with the surface. It can be monogrammed if you choose to do that. It does not have a lock, but lifts with a small decorative piece at the front. The interior is compartmented, and has a little wire that trips the music box when opened. It winds underneath. There is a paper label that reads Paris an... Click for details

This is a beautifully carved figure, carved from a single piece of mahogany. It dates to the late 18th to early 19th century. It was deaccessioned from the National Museum of the Philipines in Manila and sold through Sloan's, after which I acquired it. I am pretty sure the head is ivory, and the head is fitted with glass eyes. He's missing one arm and the hand from the other arm but the form is so fluidly beautiful that it doesn't matter. The carving is lovely, from the drape of his clothes ... Click for details

This is an adorable tiny box to hold stamps. It is hand carved in a grape vine motif with a small cluster of grapes and grape leaves. Carved into the bottom is "TETE NOIRE". There are ink stains on the box, but it doesn't detract from the charm of this small wonder. The lid fits securely, the hinge works fine, and there are no chips or cracks and no repairs. The box measures 2.25" by 1.25" and is .75" deep. Circa 1900.
