Stunning example of early treen ware. This tankard and tray are made of oak with silver plate embellishments. I have not polished up the silver as some prefer the piece is in natural worn condition. Signed on the inside of the lid, St. Louis Silver Co. There is a silver liner inside the tankard so it was meant to be used as well as being decorative. The tray measures approximately 14 1/4" and the tankard measures 17 3/4" in height. The knob on the top tilts slightly and it needs a good silver po... Click for details

These are called trophies because they depict 18th century hunting themes, with hanging game birds, bugles, bows and arrows and the like. This is hand carved, probably Italian, but I tend to think of the motif as French. It is quite wonderful, dates to the early 20th century, and is in good condition. There are a few nicks here and there, and evidence of a piece having been reglued, but nothing you wouldn't expect in this type of decoration. The size is approximately 36"" high and 22" across... This is a wonderful, hand carved pair of birds from Italy, made sometime in the early part of the 20th century, perhaps as early as 1900. I suspect they are a type of grouse, but I'm not sure of that. They are large and impressive, and probably represent a male and a female. They have cold painted metal legs and feet, and each stands on a wooden ball. They are nicely carved and have a warm patina. The male is 14" high to the top of his head, and 19" to the top of his tail. The female is pr... Click for details

This is a hand carved and painted figure of St. George slaying the dragon. It is flat on the back and carved into a base. It is a very lively figural group. The horse is rearing up over the dragon, St. George's cape is flowing and the dragon is writhing on the ground, having been speared by St. George. It is in very good condition with no breaks or chips. The paint has worn in some areas and is maybe not as bright as it once was. I can only guess about it's origin and age, which appears to... Here we have a fine box, of what looks like yew wood, containing four perfume decanters, or scent bottles. The box is fitted with ornate brass corner pieces, key escutcheon, and a large pierced piece on top. The lid is chamfered. The box has the original key. The interior is lined in dark blue velvet and fitted for four scent bottles. The top has a mirror, which is a replacement. The decanters are pressed glass, and two have silver tops and two have gilt metal tops. They are each in excel... Click for details

Offered here is a small carved gem of a box that may be for snuff or tobacco, from the Black Forest region. Highly carved in traditional motifs of leaves and acorns, it has carved lattice designs and carved rope edge trim. One side contains within a cartouche, some superimposed initials that I cannot make out. The interior appears to be covered in paper or hide. The box is approximately 4.5" by 2.5". It is in excellent condition and dates to about 1870.
