An accomplished, hand stitched 8-5/8" fan (sans loop) featuring varied and ornate spangles and sequins. The struts and ribs are hand carved with openwork and floral carving; the sequins are hand applied and nicely arrayed. The silk is double layered, covering the sequin stitches on the back; this fan extends to 16-1/4" when opened. This item is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, damage or repairs other than some minor tearing and losses to the backing silk (not affecting... Click for details

Striking variation of a Light and Dark Log Cabin quilt done in wool challis. Streak of Lightning border meant to indicate which end of the quilt was for the head. Wonderful combination of solid and printed fabrics creates additional sub-patterns. Small size logs; each measures less than 1/2" wide. Very fine condition but as is usually the case with wool challis, not perfect. Measures 66" x 73"; circa 1870. Pennsylvania origin.

SOLD
Beautiful fabrics, front and back were used to make this Nine Patch doll quilt. Blocks are not particularly scaled to the size of the quilt but the border is assurance that it is totally original. It is likely that a mother had two blocks left over from a larger quilt and made a doll quilt for her child. Excellent condition; circa 1870. Measures 10 1/4" x 18 1/2".

Gem of a Straight Furrows Log Cabin doll quilt. Wonderful scale - each log is only between 1/4" and 1/2" in width. Terrific use of lights and darks. Excellent condition; one small light smudge on binding but otherwise clean and strong fabrics. Backing is done with a Bars pattern. Measures 16" x 21". Lancaster County, Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880.

SOLD
Unwashed Star of Bethlehem quilt (aka Lone Star) with dynamic candy stripe border. Signed "Billy 1932". Puzzling as to whether Billy made the quilt or it was made for him. Both are equally unlikely in that the colors are not especially "masculine". Excellent unwashed condition; brown spot about the size of a quarter near the outer edge could likely be removed with cleaning. High quality cotton sateen fabrics used for the piecing; ground is plainer cotton. Well quilted; measures 86" square. Penns... Click for details

Wagon Wheels (aka Crossroads) quilt done in stunning colors typical of North Carolina. Deep chocolate brown is combined with teal blue/green and white, all done in solid colors to make a very striking pattern. Teal is a little more green than appears on my monitor. Well quilted. Very good condition; slight wear to calico binding but body of quilt is strong. Great positive/negative imagery. Circa 1880. Measures 82" x 95".

Extraordinarily crisp, un-used Mariner's Compass Quilt. Done with a typically southeastern Pennsylvania combination of calico fabrics. Pink figures in each block are rounded off to give the center an interesting shape. Sashing quilted with circle patterns. Light batting; circa 1880. Chester County, Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880. Measures 80" square. Pink is a deeper tone than shows on my monitor.

Evening Stars variation is wonderfully bordered by Double X quilt pattern. The stars are set within a more complex figure. There may be a name for this variation, but I have been unable to locate it. Pristine condition; nicely quilted. Several blue calico fabrics used. Unusually large size for this time period - 92" x 103". How wonderful to have a quilt of this vintage that is ample for a queen or king size bed. Circa 1880; Pennsylvania origin.
