It is a rarity in antique Scottish jewelry to find it in gold,especially 15k. This brooch,called a dirk, is designed as a replica of the weapon. It was used to fasten the kilts, but of course today its use is varied and enjoyed by women as well as men. Perhaps one of the finest examples,this brooch is signed Atchison. This very rare gold pendant is Scottish, circa 1880. It is the only Scottish agate pendant in gold that I have ever sold as most forms of Scottish jewelry are brooches. So few pieces are rendered in gold, and fewer still in 18k. It has fine gold work and engraving and incorporates beautiful colored agates accented with pearls and rose diamonds.
