Striking sterling silver ring with opal and pearl. This is known as a black opal and has a shape reminiscent of the the 1950s - an amoeba or atomic type of shape. It is also set with a natural pearl. The opal's main characteristic is opalescence (a rainbow like iridescence which changes with the angle of observation). It is a relatively soft stone so care must be taken with it when set in a ring. Fabulous looking pie... Click for details

Wonderful design to this mod sterling silver ring. A very stylized flower shape consisting of 4 concave "petals" which are oxidized inside. (some of the images may make the insides appear blue-ish but in fact they are black. It's just the lighting). A simple yet striking design. Inner shank marked 925 and there is what appears to be a makers mark on the top of the inner shank but not identified. This is a 7 1/2 (UK size P) and could be resized. The setting is 1 3/16ths x 1 1/16th.

Excellent sterling silver ring by Norman Grant, a prominent Scottish jeweler. Much of his work is done in silver and enamel and has a "swinging London" sensibility. There is an informative and well illustrated article about him on the Modern Silver website. The ring bears his NG mark along with the hallmarks for Scotland sterling (thistle), Edinburgh castle mark and the date mark for 1975. Excellent condition and a size 6.

Rare early sterling silver pin by important studio silversmith Betty Cooke. According to the book "Messengers of Modernism" (Montreal Museum of Decorative Arts"): "Cooke's style is spontaneous - reminiscent of her doodles and watercolors with their large, gestural brushstorkes. She likes to think of her jewerly as metal 'action pieces' which are based on the curve. Occasionally her line is straight, but it is always straining to bend. Although, very early in her career, she experimented with ani... Click for details
