This matched brooch and silver earrings set is circa 1830. Quite a treasure to find housed in an original box in mint condition, they are Continental in origin. A silversmith spent hours utilizing tiny fine spirals of silver which were twisted and worked into patterns appearing like fine embroidery. This type of work is called cannetille and although found in gold jewelry of the period, it is uncommon in silver. The weight is feather-like, although there is great visual dimension. These are quite spectacular both for rarity and for condition. They are Georgian, circa 1800 and designed with beautiful, clear black dot pastes. Black dot was used to simulate the culet of a diamond and is found in the finest paste jewels. These are not converted from buttons, but all original including the gold, back to front mounts. The pastes are all foil back and set in silver crimped, rub over settings. The craftsmanship is superb and the pastes reflective and brilliant. Finding early earri... Click for details

This pendant is French, circa 1790. It is a dramatic design of flowerheads and branches ending with three articulating drops. The beautiful Strass glass stones are all hand set in silver crimped mounts. The term Strass is used to describe the leaded glass used to make these stones. Georges Frederic Strass was an 18th century Parisian jeweler who gained fame with his paste jewels. Early paste was never designed to mimic the real jewels, but was heralded as an exciting innovation. Early paste jewe... Click for details

Truly unusual 18th century reliquary pendant, featuring two watercolor miniatures, mounted in a silver frame set with colorful paste stones. On the front a portrait of a saint; on the reverse, a wonderful painting of what appear to be a fingertip, flanked by two children (or monks?) and surrounded by stars and flowers! I wish I knew what it all meant. Good condition; some wear to the paintings; frame is in excellent shape. Measures 1 5/8” by 1 1/8”.
