Offered here is a fascinating find out of New York City. This is a pencil sketchbook with the title of "Orthodox Jewish Faces & Figures I met in the Streets of New York", Helmuth Nathan, New York 1964. The sketchbook includes 39 individual pencil drawings of faces and figures, most all of which are signed by the artist. The artist was Helmuth Max Nathan who was primarily a famous physician in NYC. In the manner of Sir Edwin Landseer, Fine 19th century drawing with pastel highlights of a man with his two loyal deerhounds ? Lurcher type dogs at the end of a long hunt, with his trophies, a fine Scottish Stag and some birds. Measures 24 inches x 19 inches, some spotting, watermark to lower mid section (see photos, sounds worse than it is) Signed and dated; Jessie Waters 1884 Look at the expression on the dogs face, it doesn't get a lot better than this.
