A charming English School portrait miniature on ivory of a little girl, circa 1780. She’s dressed in a white frock with a pink ribbon waistband, and wears a necklace, drop earrings, and a blue ribbon in her hair. She holds a pink rose, and the expression created by her big blue eyes and small mouth and chin is one of sweetness and whimsy! A fine portrait miniature on ivory of a noblewoman, attributed to English miniaturist Bernard Lens III, who lived from 1682-1740. Lens, miniaturist to both George I and George II, was considered to be one of the most important miniature painters of his time. A fine miniature portrait on ivory in a gold brooch setting, circa 1770. This painting is signed ("ND") by Modest School artist Nathan Drake who, according to Foskett, painted in York from the 1750's to the early 1780's. A member of the Society of Artists, he exhibited in London and York. His son was essayist Nathan Drake.
